It had been a long time since they had seen each other. They had spoke over the phone many times. Written to each other. But it was the first time in years that they had seen each other face to face. They were both older now. Miles had to wear his glasses most of the time. His silvery hair had taken a slightly darker grey dullness to it. Phoenix’s hair had stray grey hairs through it. Although he tended to pluck them out before anyone could see.

People had often wondered why Edgeworth didn’t do anything when Phoenix was disbarred. Why in the seven years of Hell, he hadn’t once visited his friend or offered any comfort. The truth, however, didn’t quite fit with the rumours and whispers. Edgeworth had played a vital role in fixing things. It had been Edgeworth’s knowledge of law and his studies abroad that had enabled Phoenix to create the Mason System.

They stood awkwardly at the airport. Edgeworth gripped at his suitcase so tight that his knuckles turned white. Phoenix scuffed his shoe against the floor, trying to find the words. Eventually, Phoenix worked up the courage to step in, closing the gap between them and wrap his arms around Miles, embracing him in a tight hug. “It’s good to see you again, Miles.” He nuzzled his chin against the other’s cheek lovingly.

Miles let out a huff of annoyance. “Ugh, Wright. You could have at least shaved. You look like a hobo, and smell just as bad.” He tilted his head slightly, catching the other man’s lips with his own. “At least that ridiculous hat is gone.”

Phoenix gave a slight chuckle, running his hand through his spiky hair. “For your information, I liked that hat.” He reached for Miles’ suitcase. “Trucy is staying with Apollo tonight, so we have the place to ourselves. Maybe we can pick up some noodles on the way back?”

Miles let out a soft groan and rested his hand on top of Phoenix’s. “How about I buy us dinner, at a restaurant, hm?”

“Sounds like a great idea!” Phoenix grinned. And just like that, it felt as if they had never been apart.
